For immediate release
JUPITER,
Fla. (
June 18, 2009) – The Max Planck Florida Institute has launched its new web site (
www.maxplanckflorida.org) designed to serve as a resource for the latest news and information about the organization. The site includes sections on employment opportunities; Requests for Proposals (RFP) for services and goods; and a registration mechanism for potential suppliers. There is also a comprehensive overview on the history of
Germany’s Max Planck Society, and details on the investment made by
Palm Beach
County and the State of
Florida to bring this research leader to the area.
The Press Room offers breaking news about the Max Planck Florida Institute, and currently features the recent announcement that Nobel Laureate
Bert Sakmann, M.D., Ph.D. will serve as the inaugural scientific director of the nonprofit organization.
He will begin assembling his research team this summer and start work in the temporary facility, previously occupied by Scripps
Florida, on FAU’s MacArthur campus. Dr. Sakmann and his group will lay the foundation of the Institute´s scientific work focused on studying the arrangement of nerves in the brain, which could lead to a better understanding of
brain degenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s.
Additional information on the new web site includes photos from events, such as the Max Planck Society’s Science Tunnel exhibit, which made its North American debut in
Palm
Beach
County, and a multimedia section with promotional videos. More features will be added as the institute further develops, including news about research projects, seminars and lecture series schedules, and collaborative opportunities.
The Max Planck Florida Institute will build a 100,000 square foot biomedical research facility at
Florida
Atlantic
University’s (FAU) campus in Jupiter. Construction is expected to begin in the Spring 2010, and
is scheduled for completion by Fall 2011.
