LEGISLATORS, BIOSCIENCE INDUSTRY LEADERS
Tallahassee, Fla. (February 18, 2009) —
The Florida Legislature’s Biotechnology Caucus is exploring
key areas such as innovation and life sciences, high-tech jobs and economic growth in the state with
BioFlorida (Florida’s statewide trade association for the bioscience industry) attending this first meeting of the Caucus. Florida legislators
discussed the impact of budget cuts on energy and biomedical research funding, the federal stimulus plan, Florida’s economy, recommendations from the Task Force for the Study of Biotech Competitiveness and other innovation and life science reports to aid in advancing Florida’s biotechnology industry.
“This is truly a critical year – not only for the bioscience industry but for Florida’s economy. The state has already heavily invested in attracting companies to Florida and its existing infrastructure, so now it’s time to show what we can do with it. With the state’s continued support to build a strong infrastructure, our bioscience companies will thrive,” said Russell Allen, President & CEO, BioFlorida. “We’ll work together to improve the ability to attract seed and early stage investment dollars, maintain a favorable tax and business climate, and improve our education system.”
